Encyclopedia entry published in Encyclopedia of Cryptography, Security and Privacy
Our encyclopedia entry “User Tracking and Reidentification” has been published in what will become the 3rd edition of the very popular reference work on cryptography and security, the new edition now also explicitly covering privacy: the “Encyclopedia of Cryptography, Security and Privacy”.
We contribute a rigorous definition of the concepts of user tracking and re-identification, give a brief survey on applications both beneficial and malicious, as well as of the underlying theory – from unintentional leftover data on the application layer, to synthesized data from networking, to physical device fingerprinting.
