Creating realistic simulations of urban environments and transportation networks is a critical challenge for researchers and urban planners. While tools like SUMO can extract data from the real world, this often requires significant knowledge about the specific city and its infrastructure. An alternative approach is to generate artificial urban scenarios with customizable parameters to study various transportation and communication systems.
City-building games are popular and provide a good platform for designing and simulating urban environments. By modifying such a game to integrate with OMNeT++ based network simulations, one can develop a powerful tool for generating artificial cities and transportation networks. This would allow defining custom parameters, such as population density, road networks, and building types, and then analyze the performance of communication protocols, vehicular networks, and other smart city technologies within these simulated environments.
Goals of the thesis
The goal of this thesis is to create a seamless integration between a city builder game, OMNeT++, and Veins, enabling users to design and simulate complex urban scenarios with a high degree of customization and control. This thesis is offered as a research project. Nevertheless, if you think you fulfill the requirements, feel free to contact us for a bachelor or master’s thesis, too.
Requirements
- Experience with C++ and OMNeT++
- Experience with .Net and C# for game modding
