Comparison of WLAN and C-V2X regarding the minimum inter-vehicle Distance in Platoons
PA: Research Project (INF-PM-FPA / INF-PM-FPG) or
BA: Bachelor Thesis (or Studienarbeit / Großer Beleg)
A platoon is a group of vehicles driving close to each other in order to reduce air drag, save fuel (or electric energy) and increase road capacity. In order to avoid accidents due to the reduced gap between the vehicles, the distance is controlled automatically, supported by wireless messages between the vehicles. Wireless communication between platoons can be realized with WLAN or cellular networks like 4G or 5G.
Goals of the thesis
The goal of the thesis is to get more insight into the influence of the network type (WLAN or cellular network) on the reachable minimum distance between the vehicles in the platoon. This is realized with simulations using OMNeT++, SUMO, Veins, Plexe, and SimuLTE.
